Melanie Rabbets

Lung Cancer Nurse

Melanie Rabbets was assigned a job as a lung cancer nurse, and her passion for helping and supporting the patients took off from there.

Melanie sees the impact of stigma on patients regularly. She sees patients show up to her clinic several months after their first symptom, by which time their disease has already progressed. Melanie believes stigma is to blame and these late diagnoses are severely impacting outcomes.

I feel for my patients, and I feel it’s incredibly important the wider community is aware of the impact of stigma, and that we all fight together to improve it.

Lung Foundation Australia needs your support to change the landscape of lung cancer by funding for research and better treatment options, and campaigning against the stigma that acts as a barrier to action.
